Parasitical Viral Marketing

by Unknown Webmaster on July 31, 2009

This is an example of how you can take advantage of a viral video that was created by someone else.

You can watch the “JK Divorce Entrance Dance” video at the bottom of this page

You have probably seen the Youtube video of a wedding entrance where everybody are dancing to Forever by Chris Brown. If not, I have embedded it below, since it is crucial to understanding the rest of the articles.

The JK Wedding Entrance Dance video was uploaded on the 19th of July, and has been online for 12 days at the time of writing. In this time it has gotten 12 million views and Yahoo shows 66.000 links for the exact URL of the video (the actual amount of links are much higher, since Yahoo obviously haven’t found all the links, and many people will be linking to duplicate pages due to the fact that Youtube tends to stuff the URL with referral data).

Unfortunately, most of us aren’t Ninjas and don’t have a stockpile of laughing babies that we can turn to when we want when we want people to pay attention to us.

In addition to the difficulty of creating a viral video, I would imagine that it is difficult to monetize a video of Charlie biting your finger.

Follow Up Videos

For most people it will be easier to create a follow up video to a video that has already gone viral. You may not get as much thunder as the original video, but a clever spin-off will still be able to do quite well.

Creating a successful follow up video and making to go viral obviously isn’t easy, however, a New York based multimedia production company has done this for the JK Wedding Entrance Dance.

Their video is called “JK Divorce Entrance Dance” and was released simultaneously on Todays Big Thing, College Humor and Youtube just 3 hours ago.

The JK Divorce Entrance Dance

The video is basically a reenactment of the “JK Wedding Entrance Dance” video, with the scene changed to a courthouse where the couple are getting a divorce.

A very solid read, as always.

You just need to work on improving your English a little, ie, the misuse of “are” instead of “is,” “were” instead of “was,”etc. Maybe get a native speaker to proof read before publishing? Just a thought.
